Last of the owls!

May 30, 2012

Think I’m running out of owl steam but have managed to squeeze a couple of final files out of the process.

Time to move on to subjects new!

More Owl stuff

May 29, 2012

I’m becoming an owl obsessive for a while, until boredom sets in, so I’ve been producing some more to sell as digital downloads at iStock and doodling some in my sketchbook. There’s something strangely satisfying in the symmetry of their faces. Here are two more I’ve done in the last couple of days, plus some soon to be artworked doodles.Yes, some fish in there too, they’re for another day though.

Owl stuff

May 25, 2012

I had doodled an owl in my sketchbook, sitting out in the sun and making the most of the weather yesterday so decided to draw it in Illustrator today and see what I could do with it….

I drew a tree recently with a hole for a bird, so I removed the original bird and replaced it with the owl, then just put the owl on a simple branch , so getting at least two uses ( maybe more later) out of one drawing.

Bottles of booze

May 23, 2012

I’ve been going through a rather lean spell, ideas-wise, so when I’m a bit stuck for something to draw to sell as micro-stock I resort to taking photos of everyday objects and drawing simple illustrations of them , often silhouettes, as here, a selection of bottlesĀ  from my extensive alcohol collection, plus glasses to drink it with. Not the most exciting image but that’s not always what selling microstock is abou. Here they are in simple silhouette form…

Once I’ve dawn an image I try and re-use it, so I took the bottles alone and placed them on a page and cut out and recoloured them where they overlapped, and did two versions which will sell together…

I may try and do something similar with the glasses.

The Doors

May 18, 2012

OK, relax, fans of 60′s/70′s prog rock God Jim Morrison and his band of elegantly wasted West Coast musicans, I misplacesd a plural, I’m talking about doors, of the entrance variety.

I’ve already got a few in my istock portfolio, I think one has sold 39 times, so not huge sellers but with potential so I’ve just drawn a slightly more detailed version in colour, in the hope of selling a few more.

Hopefully appearing in my portfolio and available to buy in a few days……

3 more cameras

May 16, 2012

Just to finish off yesterdays blog, here are the final 3 camera illustrations.Time to write the invoice and move on to the next thing!

3 cameras

May 15, 2012

Bit of a simpe job today, the sort I like, reasonable fee, just make some simple images look reasonably attractive with decent reference ( although strict instructions to alter the images enough to avoid any potential copyright problems as the client had had big problems in this area previously)

Basically draw 6 retro cameras, did 3 today, 3 more to follow tomorrow.

It’s been such terrible weather this Spring in the UK there have been few days when going out with a camera was worthwhile but a couple of weeks ago we had a nice morning which coincided with my desire to get out of the house and do something other than drawing for a change, so I nipped down to Sizewell beach here in Suffolk and managed a few shots of the power station ( a favourite subject of mine) and some boat bits left by the fishermen, plus a bit of rusty texture on some machinery, not a bad result for a couple of hours out, all now in my istock portfolio…

That shadow under the boat is a bit annoying now I look at it again!
